THE WHEEL DEAL: A year ago, Sonoma Valley humanitarian-winery owner Gordon Holmes was happy to donate a wheelchair to an impoverished disabled person somewhere in the world every time he sold a case of wine.

These day he’s practically giddy. Holmes now donates a wheelchair (wineforwheels.com) each time he sells a bottle of the $100 wine made for his Lookout Ridge Winery by some of Napa-Sonoma’s top vintners.

Holmes says the money he makes on Wall Street allows him to get wheelchairs to people who otherwise can’t move at all or are pushed about in a wheelbarrow or makeshift cart.

He loves it that starting Valentine’s Day, the folks at Jess Jackson Family Wineries will see how it works for them to donate to Wine for Wheels every cent paid in tasting-room fees at Arrowwood Vineyards.
